Bateekha : London
Gallery 1957 is proud to announce “Bateekha”, presented in collaboration with Bateekha Project. The exhibition opens in London on 15th September and runs until 17th September.
Gallery 1957 is delighted to announce “Bateekha”, presented in collaboration with Bateekha Project, a fundraising initiative in support of Palestinian children affected by the war.
Bringing together 28 watermelon sculptures reimagined by artists from around the world, the project takes one of the most enduring symbols of Palestinian identity as its starting point. Each sculpture began as a fibreglass watermelon mould made in Old Cairo and dispatched across the globe, before being transformed by a participating artist in their own distinctive style.
All 28 works will be on view at Gallery 1957, London, from 15–17 September, with an online auction opening on 7 September. All auction proceeds will be donated to “Healing for Gaza”, helping to make war-trauma therapy accessible to children, families and frontline workers affected in Gaza.
