Kwesi Botchway, NYC Debut : The Armory Show

Javits Center 429 11th Avenue, New York, NY 10001, 9 - 12 Sep 2021
The Armory Show, Booth P19

Gallery 1957 is pleased to debut new works by Kwesi Botchway.

These new works by the mercurial young Ghanaian painter will be on show at Gallery 1957's booth at The Armory Show in New York City this week. Following solo shows with the gallery in Accra and London, we are pleased to bring Kwesi Botchway to the USA debut with a solo presentation.

“I don’t want to just produce realistic work but works that speak loud and can prompt dialogue,” the artist states. “My focus is to be more conceptual, focusing on the language of colour. I want to elevate Blackness and also what Black truly represents.”

Kwesi Botchway’s expressionistic portraits considering black identity speak volumes about the talent and energy coming from West African diaspora and contemporary art today. Young and evolving, the work of Botchway hones onto the perception of beauty in his own terms, making his paintings extremely special. Led by color consciousness, Botchway has captured the everyday lives of many in his latest series of works to be shown at The Armory. Each time we show him to a new audience, we were reminded how impactful his work is on both a local and international scale.
