We are pleased to share that Geometry of Elsewhere, Freya Tewelde’s solo exhibition at Gallery 1957, has been selected by The Art Newspaper as one of the standout exhibitions of London Gallery Weekend 2026.
In a feature highlighting the critics’ top shows across the city, contributing editors Ben Luke and Louisa Buck place Geometry of Elsewhere at the forefront of their selection, drawing attention to a significant evolution in Tewelde’s practice as she moves from figuration towards abstraction.
The article explores how the exhibition’s new body of work employs colour, gesture, and materiality to convey emotional and psychological states, creating spaces where memory, ancestry, and lived experience converge. Tewelde describes her paintings as works that “translate her memories into pure feeling”, underscoring the exhibition’s deeply personal and evocative character.
Presented as part of London Gallery Weekend’s programme of leading contemporary exhibitions, Geometry of Elsewhere is recognised for its distinctive visual language and its thoughtful engagement with themes of identity, remembrance, and transformation.
We are grateful to The Art Newspaper for highlighting the exhibition as part of its editorial selection of outstanding shows across London.
