Godfried Donkor featured in the New York Times.

We’re honoured to share that Godfried Donkor has been featured in a recent article by the The New York Times reflecting on the making of In Minor Keys, the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia conceived by the late curator Koyo Kouoh. The article considers the collective process of realising Kouoh’s final Biennale exhibition, tracing the care, collaboration, and curatorial conviction that continue to shape its unfolding presence in Venice.

Within the feature, Donkor’s contribution is situated among a generation of artists engaging deeply with questions of history, displacement, memory, and diasporic identity. Known for his intricate layering of archival imagery, symbolism, and historical references, Donkor’s practice brings together narratives that move fluidly across time and geography — exploring the entanglements of migration, trade, mythology, and Black cultural memory. His presentation for In Minor Keys continues this dialogue, offering a meditation on historical continuity and the enduring resonance of African diasporic experience.

The article further highlights Kouoh’s far-reaching influence on contemporary art and the profound sense of responsibility felt by those entrusted with carrying her vision forward. Through moments of reflection from artists and collaborators alike, the feature reveals the emotional depth underpinning this year’s Biennale and the shared commitment to honouring Kouoh’s intellectual and curatorial legacy.

We are proud to see Donkor’s work included within this important international conversation and extend our thanks to the The New York Times for their thoughtful coverage.
