For our eighth presentation at 1-54 London, Gallery 1957 is delighted to present a selection of works by Larry Amponsah, Rita Mawuena Benissan, Modupeola Fadugba, Nabeeha Mohamed, Yaw Owusu, and Freya Tewelde.

Bringing together six distinct practices from Africa and its diaspora, the presentation considers how memory, identity and cultural inheritance are carried, reworked and transformed through material and image.

 Across painting, collage, embroidery, mixed media and sculptural assemblage, the artists engage histories both personal and collective. Archival imagery, inherited symbols, domestic spaces, currency and abstraction become points of departure for examining value, belonging, resilience and the ways cultural memory continues to shape contemporary experience.
