For our third presentation at 1-54 Marrakech, Gallery 1957 is delighted to present a curated selection of contemporary African art by Amoako Boafo, Freya Tewelde, Modupeola Fadugba, and Nabeeha Mohamed. Each artist brings a distinctive voice shaped by personal history, material inquiry, and a sustained engagement with how selfhood, intimacy, and presence are shaped and understood.

Together, their works form a rich dialogue that spans generations and practices, moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction, painting and mixed-media exploration. This presentation is a meditation on art’s capacity to connect viewers with interior worlds—those shaped by self-perception, domestic intimacy, embodied experience, and the subtle forces that structure lived realities.

 

In conversation, these works move between visibility and concealment, solidity and dissolution, individuality and collectivity. Together, the works at Gallery 1957’s Booth 1 articulate how presence, inheritance, and ways of being are actively constructed, negotiated, and continually transformed.
